this qoute is to the people that seem to think that life flows a certain direction and that thinking like this is the wqy to succeed easily and that is what this quote is about. this is a type of situation were bad company is not just found it has to be looked for and thats the only way most of the time it happens cause any sensable person can just find the bad company. that is how it is were the person looks for self harm and willingly goes with the bad company instead of just stopping to think in the long run of what happens.
