Genetic counselor
Duties and responsibilities: defines and researches diseases and modify the medication to benefit the patient, treats inherited diseases
  • Interpretation of family and medical histories to assess the chance of disease occurrence or recurrence.
  • Education about inheritance, testing, management, prevention, resources
  • Counseling to promote informed choices and adaptation to the risk or condition.


Salary:  $67,200-$77,900


Education: to become a genetic counselor you must have a master’s degree from an accredited us program. You must also pass administration from the American genetic counselors administration. Students also learn about inherit diseases and steps to prevent them, also students must also earn an undergraduate degrees in subjects such as psychology, biology, social work, public health, genetics or nursing.



Do you think you would like to be a genetic counselor? Why? Why not?

I would not want to be a genetic counselor because of the much family contact, because I would not want to be there while the family suffers and I being in charge of their life.
